99 XLT alarm not working correctly?

Hello All,

I am new to this user group and have recently purchased a 99 XLT. I am having an issue with my alarm not functioning correctly. The panic button on the remote works, but when I try to test the alarm by just opening the door, the alarm does not go off.

Any idea on what could be going (or not) on?

The keyless entry works, but when I just shut the door and set the alarm with the keyless entry, then open the door w/o disableing the alarm, it does not sound.

Is there a valet switch that could be turned off?

The factory alarm has a 30 second delay from the time that you arm it until it activates. Sit inside your Explorer. Push the lock button on your remote and wait 30 seconds for your theft light to start flashing. Once it is flashing, open your door using the handle. The horn should start honking.

I tried exactly that in my troubleshooting.

I sat in the explorer and set the alarm via the remote and waited the 30 seconds. I opened the door and the alarm did not sound.

The funny thing is, when I open the door, the security light keeps blinking....

You are using the inside door handle right? Do the dome lights come on when you open the door? What if you open another door?

try this: roll down the window on the drivers door. lock it, then a little while later go unlock it through the window. see if that works. and are you sure you have an alarm?

You may just have the keyless remote, but not an alarm. That comes with the panic button, but not an alarm system. The theft light is for the passive system using the chip in the key.
