How many inches do youwanna go with? 2 or 3? the ones you wanna go with are gonna be the performance accessories lifts, kit #883 is the 3" and #853 is the 2". I got mine from www.summitracing.com. Search these boards and sunmmit for "883" or "853" and youll find tons of useful info regarding the lifts. good luck and welcome

The 883 is a 3'' for the '98-'00 and the 853 is a 3'' for the '95-'97. If you are gonna do a body lift for the few extra bucks and a little bit of extra work, go for a 3''.

holy **** youre right.. where did i see that 853 was 2".. let the research begin.

actually there is no Explorer specific body lift for the 2nd Gen+ Explorers. Gotta use Ranger body lifts...
So you will only find a body lift up to the 94 Sploders.

Will the Gen 1 kits work on the Gen 2 ex's or is there too much differences like steering extenders and bumper relocators???
I have a dude that wants to give me a gen 1 kit for my 99 gen 2 and I don't know if it is worth it ???
(going to trade some gen 1 fenders for it)

Mate, I used performance accessories 1st generation kit for my 9/99 all I had to do was put a longer fuel hose on and free the brake lines of the left hand pillar then buy some extra blots as those supplied by the kit are not all the right length but I was able to reuse some of the oe bolts . I had to raise the fan cover but there comes with the kit pieces to fix that no problems . I thought about a 3" lift but then there are other issues to think about like a longer intermediate steering shaft plus longer earth (-)cables especially in the engine bay and under the body also you have a higher centre of gravity.I strongly advise with that height do not put heavy gear on top of the roof . All that aside it all looks pretty cool

Mate , I forgot one thing with the bumpers the front one I built a bracket that enabled me to lift it the 2" and still be okay with the sensors .The rear one I just made the slots longer on the bumper mounts using a oxy/ acet and the finish was okay where as if you go 3" you have to build or make separate brackets to make the job look as though it was meant to be .Hope this has helped. Cheers

Thanks Foxy, I have a well equiped shop with plazma cutter mig tig and oxy welding equipment. And a fair bit of fabbing ability so the 3" and the bumpers shouldn't be a worry. Just as long as there are enough blocks and the steering shaft parts are the same. Eventually I will be going sas front (d30 out of a heep) and custom bumpers but I'm missing the ability to go out onto the trails and my 31" tires just arn't cutting it...lol...
Will the 3" body lift give me the clearance for 33" tires??? Was thinking 33 12.50r15 on the stock rims... :exp: :)

Oh and I don't usually put too much on the roof of my Ex. so I'm not too worried about top heavyness
Cheers...
ps.. Foxy, what part of the down under are you located???

Mate, Located way down, Next stop South Pole.I 'm in the Adelaide hills about 40miles east of Adelaide a place called Lobethal German for "Valley of Praise". I'm a Vietnam Vet so that tells you how old I am and I served with some of your country men there, Mate thats eon's ago now . Love my ex, Done so much to her been great fun I sent some photos to Don to show him some of the things I've done much to the frustration of my lady but that's how it goes .I put a Aussie locker up front and changed the exhaust and now she's a go go anywhere .I'm about to put a remote tranny filter with a temp guage for life extention if you know what I mean then come Sept or Oct I will pull the engine to do all the timing chains and gear as a matter of course because when you hear the clatter trouble is already there . Anyway thanks for asking ave a g'day Cheers Foxy

Ya I'm getting up there too...lol.. Not quite as OLD as you but up there...lol...
Nam prolly sucked big time good on you for doing your duty tho...
Shoot me off a couple pix's of your Ex too, to randyj11@telus(dot)net...
I just got my 99 from the ford dealership I wrench at for cheep due to the start up clatter and all I did was the tensioner on the front chain and it's been quiet as heck...Lovin it way better than my tranny poppin 91 I had...lol...

Sorry for the hijacking of the post...
The only options I have found are the 1st gen body lifts or Ranger... Both will require some mods... Cheers...

Mate ,Just a hint but not a criticism to save you putting your address in the forum you may contact by private using the message system these forums have .It may save you getting a whole lot of junk .Ford did a recall on mine and that's all they did to, just replaced the tensioner and it was mainly to overcome the low oil pressure at start up and in turn hurting the engine but now Iv'e done 130k and I'll do preventative job on her no problems . Cheers Barry

Ya that's why I put the (dot). cuts down a little and I have a cool delete button for spam...lol...

BTW your Ex looks cool but the steering wheel is on the wrong side...lol...
Guess thats why the alignment specks have a left and right hand drive option on the alignment computor...lol...

cheers Randy...
