How hard is it to replace the A/C Compressor? My mom has a 96 V-6 Explorer and the pulley on her A/C compressor is starting to not want to turn and seize up.
little hard for the "do-it yourself" you need to pull down the system and get all the freon out of it. Then you have to make sure you put the right amount of oil in the compressor/system and then button it back up and recharge the system
It's not too hard to learn if you are determined and read up on it. The cost of replacing the compressor at the shop would probably justify the purchase of the tools you need to do the job... and who doesn't want more tools?
There's a good chance that you only need to change the outer bearing. With belt off, engine off, see if the pulley will spin freely, if not get at 'er.
