Greetings! I have a 94 XLT with new condenser, evaporator core, and a full charge of 134a. I hear the compressor kick on and everything sounds normal, but the inside temperature is around 75 deg when outside is 90. What possibly can I check to make the system cooler?

How many ounces of R134 did you put in your truck? I believe it takes 30 ounces for a full charge.

About 3 lbs.

Take that back, 16 + 8 = 34 oz, 3 lbs. My bad!

Did you pull a good vacuum on the system prior to recharge?

That was performed by a qualified A/C mechanic. He was stumped by the fact that the temp was not as it should be.

to help on this one operating system pressures are going to be key. I'm suspecting your orifice valve may be in need of replacement. Of course there could be a blend door issue too.

A new orifice valve was provided with the evaporator core. The A/C dude was puzzled by the fact that pressures were correct as well as the amount of r134a in the system. Is the orifice valve always located in the evaporator core liquid line?

Well if the system pressure on the low side is under 40, you SHOULD be getting cold air. Are you sure you aren't blending heat into the AC warming it up (the so called "blend door". Is the line coming from the evaporator cold? The only reason I suspecteda possible orifice is thinking maybe you were flooding your evaporator.... Check that line's temp..... if it is nice and cold, suspect the blend door.

I'm afraid I've never heard of a blend door. Can You explain it's location, possible causes for failure, and repair solution? Also, is it possible that the orifice that was provided with the new evaporator was defective?

Anything is possible. I wish you could tell me the pressures. Go check that line, is it cold? Do a search for "Blend door".. you will find lots of posts and threads on it. I have never fixed one.

My Ford CD says a full charge is 28 oz. You should have a sticker on the evaporator housing (under the hood) that tells the refrigerant type and capacity.
