2003 XLT
Hi,

A recent thread reminded my of a problem I've had with my A/C. FYI, I have a 2003 XLT V8 X.

Occasionally (usually only when I haven't driven my X in a few hours) when I turn on the A/C I hear a brief thumping/grinding noise from the engine compartment. This only happens (I think) if I turn on the A/C after the engine is running (though, I might just not hear it when the engine is starting). Of course, when I took it in to the dealer, it wouldn't do it (even when I left it with them overnight). They told me the usual line, "There doesn't seem to be a problem, if it happens again bring it in!"

I am assuming that there is something wrong with the compressor (?), i.e. it's off balance or otherwise broken/damaged. However, I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and might have any insight into possible problems. Any info would be appreciated!

Also, are there any Chilton's, etc. manuals for 2002+ models yet. I like being able to have at least some knowledge of whats under my hood (more than I can gather from a visual inspection).

Thanks,
MilesTeg
