In the 2000 exlporer sport, which hose is the low refrigerant hose?

I think I am trying to fill the wrong one because i'm reading that it is very high pressure and may have mechanical problems....the other hose I thought it could be doesn't fit unless I need an adapter....anyone have any ideas on what it could be? Someone please help.....it's way too hot to be driving around.....

Hi,
Are you sure that the refridgerant is the problem? Is the compressor cycling on and off?, can you here the compressor at all?,if it cycles right off that is usually a sign you need refridgerant, have you checked the relays and fuses? Make sure you are on the low side when you try to fill it, shouldn't need an adapter, the fact that it won't take any may mean it is some other problem, hope it helps.
Sandy

Did you take a look at what Sandy said? In my previous Fords the A/C compressor was the first thing to go. The relays and fuses make sense also. After all else fails it sounds as though it has to be the refridgerant.

Also if the clutch isn't activating it might be because there isn't enough refridgerant. There is a pressure sensor on your A/C system that will sense this.

When i went to fill up the refridgerant it was showing very hgh pressure with the car on and a/c running full blast....The compressor is constantly cycling on and off with the a/c on....One person told me it is most likely the low pressure switch which i might need to replace.....Also i know one of my sensors need to be replaced could that be causing the problem...thanx for the help...

i'm having the same problem. it was reading 45+ lbs on the low side. when the compressor kicks on, the pressure drops. when the compressor kicks off, pressure comes back up. with the low side sitting at about 35 lbs, the compressor won't kick on at all. yours, similar?

Kids don't get all worked up about those little gauges. They were never dsigned for our kind of system. The FORD system uses a cutout switch and when the compressor pulls the low side down to about 25 psi, it turns the compressor off. Now the high side will be over 200 PSI, and there IS an interconnection, so the low side will start to try and equalize to the high side. Once it gets back up to around 45 psi, the compressor turns back on. The little gauge set will have you fretting over 45PSI, when it is normal in our system.

You can only put refrigerant in* (on the low side only, the can fitting will NOT attach to the high side - be thankful - it could explode if it did!) with the engine running. IGNORE the color zones, they are meaningless.

A fast cycling (on then off every 5 seconds or so) compressor means you need refrigerant. check your vent temps, and add until (at around 85 - 90 degrees outside) you get 20 - 30 seconds of on time between cycles....

Hope this helps.

(* if the system pressure is below about 75 psi with the engine off, you can probably get some refrigerant in with the engine off as the can pressure will more or less be the same as degrees farenheit)

ac not working

The temp blending door may not be working and the default position is full hot. try and turn the ac on and use it in the max. position and see if you get any cold air. the max position recycles air from inside the cabin and thus you get cold air and bypass the blending door problem try and see. rwr1987

took it to a shop to get checked, two o-rings on the back of the compressor were leaking. they replaced and has been blowing cold since

Those would be these. Did the same repair on mine last month and if there is interest can do a thread on here all about it.
