Hey y'all, i'm new to the site, sorry if this isn't accurate.

i've had my '93 XLT Explorer bout a year now, the a/c has been broken since i got it. they bypassed the condenser so the belt on the front of the engine is shorter. i think i know what to do, but i'm not sure, please double check me.

1. either replace the bearing/clutch assembly, or replace the condenser
2. charge the system
3. hook up the belt (proper length)
4. and hope for the best

has anyone else had this problem? if they have and they've fixed it, it'd be greatly appreciated.

also, i'm in a car club, explorer's the president's (me!) car. i'll post pics later

Do you know that they bypassed the compressor because of something with the compressor or just a guess? Has the system been converted to R-134? Also check the Under the Hood section which has an A/C section within it.

Welcome to the forum!

Normally, if someone puts the AC bypass (shorter) belt on, it's because either the compressor or compressor clutch is locked up. You should determine the status of the compressor before getting too far into it. Also, as the previous poster stated, see if it's R12 or 134. If it's still R12, you should seriously consider having it converted to 134.
