Here's a quickie... AC works great till I step on the gas pedal then it slows down. If I step all the way down, it will just stop coming out of the vents but the compressor and fan are still on. Whats the deal? It sounds like it could have something to do with the TPS and vaccum but what do I know...

my moms 96 also does this... i read somewhere that on the gen II xs do that as a computer control thing... when it senses wot it turns off the fan to conserve power to let the car move faster...... i do not know the validity of this claim though..... however, my moms 96 seems to do what you are describing.... and my 94 doesnt.....

Not quite, there is a WOT throttle relay but all it turns off is the compressor, not the fan. You shouldn't be able to keep it at WOT long enough for the air to start coming out warm. I've seen a similar problem once before but it was on my Mother's 77 Granada. The fan would cut out whenever you put the throttle more than half way down. It turned out to be vacuum related. I seem to remember her saying they had to replace a modulator (not sure though). The fan should not cut out at full throttle. I would look for a vacuum related problem.

There are some A/C parts that are controlled by vacuum. It is possible that if you have a vaccum leak on one of these parts that as you give it more gas it is making the leak worse. I do know there is a vacuum controlled solenoid that is actuated when you put your A/C control on MAX. It activates a solenoid that closes off the radiator coolant from circulating through the A/C-Heater system. Yours sounds more like a blend door that is changing positions during WOT. I think the blend door is controlled by a cable though and not a vacuum. Whatever the problem is, it is not right.

I have never heard of any such thing. The fan on my 99 stays wherever it was set at any throttle position, This is true of other late models I have driven too.

vaccum leak?

I am not sure where a vaccum leak would be coming from but aren't there just a few lines that run off the intake? I have a feeling it could be the lines associated with the NMU (Nitrous Management Unit) but I am getting rid of those with the new FMU coming in. Hopefully that will fix it. Would those vaccum testing kits work for testing the lines?

Problem fixed!

Incase anyone cares... I fixed the problem. There is a vaccum diaphram underneath the plate that the airbox sits on. To get to it, remove the two 8mm bolts located underneath the front of the truck on the passenger side that hold the fenderwell to the frame. Then remove the two 10mm bolts that hold the vaccum diaphram to the fenderwall. Disconnect the two hoses (remember which goes where) and install them on the new one. The part costs $16 at your local ford dealership and it looks like a black baseball with 2 vac connections. Put all the bolts back, crank the AC and floor it!

Thanks for the input , Ill have to remember that being a trouble maker :)
