I have a couple problems with my HVAC system in my 00 Explorer.

First, The A/C just doesn't seem to be cold anymore, its just cool.
It has always been the coldest a/c of all my cars until this year. I took it in and had it charged but it didn't change anything at all so obviously that wasn't the only problem.

Second, it seems to have a vacuum leak because when the engine is under load the blower defaults back to defrost for a few minutes.

Does anyone have a vacuum diagram for a 5.0 explorer? Where are common vacuum leaks? Does vacuum control the hot/cold air mix also?

Could my vacuum leak be the whole problem?

Your A/C was recharged. Still not cool. That would mean, (imo) one thing. The condenser is clogged. Has your A/C shop looked at the condenser because I guarantee it's clogged.

Go to Ford.com and they should have a vac diagram. Fordfleet maybe as well.

is there a way to flush the condesor or do you have to replace it?

I'm still trying to figure that out myself. (flushing it that is) Miata has the same problem, slightly and the Sequoia had the problem. Shop diagnosed it as ta clogged condenser.

I would check the heater bypass valve too (if that model has it) and the vacuum line that controls it.

Loss of ac efficiency due to airflow restrictions isn't uncommon. Try this: (With the engine off) direct a jet of water through the engine side of the radiator aiming outward to remove gunk and debris from the condenser fins.
