Hi all,
I've got a couple of issues with my X. I'm currently pursing my AAS degree in Automotive Technology and one of the classes I'm taking this term is electrical and electronics. So I brought my X in today to run a code scan on it because I noticed that the MIL bulb had been removed, so I figured it was throwing some codes.
After scanning it (KOEO) I had no fast codes, but came up with 2 slow codes. #14 Profile Ignition Pickup erratic and #96 Fuel pump circuit open, Battery to ECA (Or Q, I can't read my writing
). So, since I'm having an intermittent driveability issue, mainly an occasional stumble immediately after a warm start, we suspect the main issue is regarding the PIP. My instructor told me to back probe either the EDIS module or the PCM itself, and since acessing the EDIS module looked to be a bit of a PITA I decided to head for the PCM. After removing the kickpanel, I did a little looking and found that the wire going to the Idle speed control solenoid was severly chafed (maybe 1/8-1/4in of exposed wire). I also noticed that there was chafing on the IAC side of the wire. Needless to say, I'll be replacing the damaged sections of wiring. My question is this, could this chafing issue be the reason for the codes being thrown? I've been looking at the engine perfomance wiring diagram for my truck all day and it the circuit controling the solenoid dosen't really tie in to the circuits for the EDIS system or the fuel system beyond the fact that they all tie into the computer. But if one sensor/motor/solenoid is functioning improperly then it can tweak with any number of other systems, so it seems possible.
Anyways, sorry to be so long winded, I basically just want to get an idea on how to best tackle this issue. Thanks for any help!
Pat
Edit: Bah, forgot to give the info on the X, 4.0L, 5 Speed, 4WD, A/C.
