I just got my 2002 Explorer a few months ago and I'm noticing a few oddities with the electrical system.

First of all when I exit the vehicle I notice that the dome light stays on for quite a bit of time, over 10 minutes. For now I just use the dimmer switch to turn off the dome light when I exit the truck.

Second, If I use the key chain remote to lock the truck, the alarm will go off in about 5 minutes after locking the truck. if I lock it just by hitting the lock button on the door and shutting the door, the alarm will not go off.

Third, it has a sun roof. The sun roof will not retract to open, It does open by just raising the rear of the glass, but it doesn't retract to open completely like the one in my 2000 Mountaineer did. I did replace the switch, but that didn't help. I'm thinking it could be the motor for the sun roof? Any thoughts?

It also has the reverse sensors that it looks like someone sand papered them. They look bight copper color on the rear bumper. They also don't seem to work. The switch on the dash shows that they are turned on when I go into reverse, but I have purposely gotten close to several objects but the alarm never sounds. Again, any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

the dome light and the alarm probs are because of the switch inside the door latch. spray the heck oout of all of them with wd40 and open and close the doors about 10 20 times. if that doesn't work its one of the switches. but concentrate on the drivers door the most. tell me how it works

Where exactly are the door switches on this beast? That was exactly my first thought but when I went to look for them they aren’t the traditional plunger type that you see in most cars. Are they part of the door latches?

Thank you in advance.

Thank you sooooo much. This video hit the nail right on the head. I already did the WD-40 thing and it made the issue worse where the door ajar light flashes off and on while driving. This tells me it's the switch. I'm still going to look to see if there are any broken wires in the door harness. One other it does that I find quite odd, is that the power door locks don't work if I have the dome lights turned on, if I turn them off from the dimmer on the dash, the door locks work fine. It's probably a broken ground reference wire in the harness. I'm wondering if this is why my right rear passenger window doesn't work, and also the sun roof won't retract to open, but it does raise to open.

If I determine the door switch thats bad, can i just cut the wires and crimp them together?
