Hello all

Been driving my 2010 explorer for about a year now and some gremlins have popped up that I am trying to figure out. They are-

1.) MOST IMPORTANT. I was driving down the road a few days ago and the vehicle died on me. The chain of lights that came on, in this order, were the wrench, then the check engine and battery, then everything else. When I got to the side of the road, all of the electronics appeared to be working properly but the vehicle would not turnover at all. I had it towed to the dealership where they basically said they couldnt duplicate the problem and that they *thought* it might be a short that caused the issue. I am skeptical as I saw no loss of power in the vehicle and things you would expect with a short (like the stereo clock resetting) didnt happen.

I have my own suspicion that it might possibly be due to water in the tank resulting in the fuel line freezing. This is the first winter I have been able to park in a garage regularly, it was at about a 1/4 of a tank of fuel, and it was extremely cold out (-40F).

I have added heet to the tank for peace of mind, but I would rather be sure that was it. Has anyone experienced this?

2.) I am having a few problems with the HVAC system. It is-
A.) Not blowing any air at all when set on the floorboard only setting, and minimal air from the floorboard when set on a floorboard mix setting.
B.) The HVAC system blows warm to hot air even when set at the coolest setting in freezing temperatures.
C.) It does not seem to be getting as warm as it once did (this might be a perception issue for me)
D.) The center console, particularly the rear cupholders on top of the console, get extremely warm when the heat is on.

Thoughts on these HVAC items?

3.) The rear window defrost is partially non-functional. Most of the bars clearly heat up, but 2 dont. Any way to repair this, or am I going to have to go with a full window replacement?

Thank you in advance for your help!

I find my floor heat sucks because the design of the whole vents down there blow... there is a small hole and a crappy vent in the side of the console... neither of which blow heat on my toes... so every day driving home from work my feet freeze... my heat really sucked but I changed the t-stat housing because it was leaking and my heat works much better but it still does not melt my hand.... the rear window look at it for breaks in the heater lines if you find a break they sell a conductive paint that will fill it in and make it function.... I just bought a 2007 and I am finding quite a few things that must of been because ford designers had their heads in their ass's.... things that were not problems on my 1998 or very limited to my fathers 2004

I have used the defroster grid repair it does work but I find once you clean the inside of the window you have to redo the repair. A few lines that I have repaired work till I clean the window and one line that I have almost repainted the entire line and it still won't work. My opinion on the repair paint is it works for some time then has to be redone.

The longest lasting repair would be to replace the window if insurance won't cover the replacement it's around $500 from a window repair place. On eBay you can get the window for half the price and do it yourself.

B.) The HVAC system blows warm to hot air even when set at the coolest setting in freezing temperatures. (Check the Blend Door Actuator)
C.) It does not seem to be getting as warm as it once did (this might be a perception issue for me) (Once again the Blend Door Actuator)

For the window grid, check out www.frostfighter.com I had very good luck with their tab bonding kit. They are more expensive that the stuff at the local auto store but it seems to be better materials.
