Shopping 4 One
Hey i have a few questions for you guys... Im currently shopping around for an explorer, with intentions of lifting it. Im looking at getting a 2nd gen and setting it up high enough for 33s with some travel room. Looking at cardomain.com i see the most popular way of doing it is 4 in suspention lift and 3 inch body lift. I can only find one 4 inch lift from superlift and its 1600 bucks. are there any other kits out there? after cruising thru some of the threads on the site i see that with the 2nd gens that there are some issues with it being IFS, is it a big problem? Im trying to choose between an explorer sport and a f-150, i would really like to go with the explorer sport. help me out here guys on my decision.

Thanks alot

John

if you want simple esay modifications get a F150 or Expedition... they have much more aftermarket.

Explorers are fun and wheel great but most stuff has to be done custom.

Yeah thats what i was afraid of, i really like the explorer since its got a 6 cyl and is a little better on gas, plus i just like the look. As far as the f150 i'll have to do a little more looking for lift kits, i only saw one for the 97-?? body style, and it was real expensive too... anyone have any input on what problems i might run into if i put a the superlift kit, and a 3 in body lift with 33s as far as having to replace other parts that wear out, ride and handling problems? im just trying to see what im getting myself into before i get the explorer.

Just get a 3" body lift and the 2" suspension lift that can be done for around 400 total following steps through this site and you can easliy fit 33's with minor trimming, I have expierenced no problems with this same setup and only rub slightley at full lock, other than that no probs so far ;)

Im wanting a little more lift than what that sounds like, im trying not to trim and i would like to see a fair amount of clearance.... Im starting to hate all vehicles, i can never seem to pick one that will do what i want. im looking into some blazer stuff, but i havent been able to find a lift kit for the newer ones. looks like if i want a lifted suv im going to get a jeep.

You may want to look at a gen I X (91-94). 5.5-inch suspension lifts are much cheaper and have more options. The disadvantage is a less powerful engine. However, with gears, exhaust, intake and perhaps a chip, you can get good performance out of it. Another option to consider is a Ranger. I believe you can get the TTB suspension up to year 97.

i think other brands with more aftermarket would be the wisest choice.

Nissan has a ton of aftermarket for the Xterra, including SAS kits on coilovers for cheaper than the superlift 4" kit.
