A few questions

To start you all off: My situation: I just bought a 1995 XLT 4x2 6cyl and have a couple of problems I would like to get straightened out


First: My overhead display doesn't work, however! I have read the "overhead display fix" thread and it doesn't work for me (for the most part...) as when I turn the vehicle onto acc. I can see the a very dim light come on as a background for the display but nothing else, though, every once in a while it will show something that resembles a ' (apostrophe) or like a 1... I'd love to have this feature and get it fixed

Onto more on that, the "spotlight" on the drivers side doesn't work, assuming it's a blown bulb, can I just pop the clear plastic piece off without breaking it?

Second: Why does my vehicle have a 4x4 option though no "switch" ? - Was it a 4x4 and converted? !! (not even sure if this is possible, not a mechanic, I'm a geek)

While in that area, right below that the cigarette lighter doesn't work (didn't work in my last car either) just curious as to if there is a quick-fix for this or a lengthy one...


I believe that is all for now. Other than my O/D (overdrive) OFF light flashing - going to get the code ran tomorrow and get it reset... Hopefully that'll solve the issue...

For your overhead, I can't help you there other than to say try the fix, you cant break whats already broken.

The light for drivers side, yes the clear plastic will pop off. The bulb is a #168

If you do not have the switch, you do not have a 4X4. But you already knew that. You wont have the switch because there isn't a need for it.

I unplugged my positive battery wire for about 30 mins to let everything reset... The O/D OFF light is still flashing... I have been trying to take it easy but I got her up to 60 and had no problems with the shifting up or down... Smooth all the way. Still haven't got the code pulled because I can't find anywhere to do it (called "Advanced Autos" and they said they don't have the proper equipment, can only pull from a '96+)

Still curious about my cigarette lighter - I don't smoke, and definitely wouldn't smoke in the X if I did, but I do love my phone chargers and other accessories...

@My POS Mounty: The reason I was asking about the 4x4 is because the "letters" are there for it lol - Though I'd love the 4x4, this is my DD so kinda glad it doesn't have it lol... As for the decals, etc... I was saying if anyone had any extras, I'd love em lol - broke and unemployed
