"00 Eddie Bauer
Hi,
I have a '00 Eddie Bauer. I've been having numours problems with Eddie (that's what I call him.) Nothing too seroius just annoying. If anyone can help me out with any of these problem please let me know. My Email is Annhebert@mobiletel.com.
First the ABS light is on, the radio display is out most of the time, the side mirrors don't move any more, the cig lighter won't work, the rear wiper gets caught up under the window plus it only cleans a portion of the window, it's idling too low and kills.
Eddie's out of warrarty & I don't have the money to take him in and would like to resolve any of these problems ourselves. We have tried the logical solutions for most, like new wiper blades and fuses. I just went out and checked the brake fluid level, it's good and clear.
Thanx,
Ann

The rear wiper arm is probably sticking at the joint. I had mine replaced under warranty a while ago I was told that the springs wearout and they can get stuck easily. The problems went away after it was replaced but you may be able to lube the joint.

ABS could be a sign of your front hub assembly going bad. Side mirrors could have come disconnected. Remove door pannels and check. Rear window may not be closing all the way, there is a way to adjust it, I think? Unplug the battery for a while to reset the computer, that may cure the idle thing. There is a reset procedure. I had to do it when I installed the new throttle body.

The thing that confuses me is the radio display being out "most of the time." Maybe there's a loose wire, maybe you drive w/ your lights on and the dimmer switch is set too low.

Good luck,

The rear wiper arm needs to be replaced - a $45.00 item from your local ford dealer. There is TSB on that issue. Your radio dusplay problem is due to a faulty display driver board. It can be easily fixed by ordering the replacement board and changing it out. Use the search button for "radio display" I ordered mine from: Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. Customer Support Division at 1-800-421-1404. Just get the info from the back of your unit and provide it to them. It cost me $89.59 and I did myself. Some places wanted the unit for more than a week and would repair it through a simple solder job for $150- $200. The new board has been redisgned and won't suffer from the high heat problems.

For the ABS light on, the ABS sensor have probably gone bad. Not sure how much to fix. I just pulled mine off.

What engine do you have? If it's the 4.0 SOHC, you may need to have the intake manifold o-rings checked. You should also have the cam chain tensioners and timing chain cassettes replaced if you haven't already done so. Use the search function and search for 00M12 and 01M01 for information about extended warranty on the parts.

You can also try cleaning the IAC (idle air controller) for your idle problem. Search for How to Clean IAC and you'll find thread with pictures and directions on how to do.
