Hey Everyone. My name is Gary West I have a 2006 Ford Explorer, I am in the construction field and I don't know much about cars. I want to put to put some wider, bigger mud tires with black metal rivet style rims on it. Eventually, I'm going to get a brush guard and lift kit. I've had a body man look at the areas that are known to rust on Explorers and I'm good to go. I've seen some nice examples on here. Can somebody give me some examples of what to ask/look for if I want those kind of tires. I.e. Tire names/size (id like 3 inches from the body) black metal rivet rims (names, size etc). Any help would be much apprieated. I know going in to a tire store asking these questions, I'd be a sitting duck. Thanks All!

I posted the above somewhat prematurely, as there is plenty of info on what I'm looking for in the forums. Have lots of ideas of were I want to go with my 2006 Explorer XLT. Roadbully your ride is looks awesome. Eventually that's where I'd like to be. Also I wanted to thank the moderators for putting my post where it needed to be. I apologize for not first familiarizing myself with the site, and for any inconvieance I may have caused. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! You'll find pretty much anything you'll need here. I also have an 06, on tires, it depends really on what style of tire you're looking for? Are you looking for actual Mud Terrains? Or just some meaner looking All Terrains? When you lift these things you're only looking at about 3 inches max with the spacer kits they make. 265/70r17 or 32" is about as big as you can get with the lift as well. If you're looking for tires, I would wait until after you've lifted it.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I'm hoping to put some mean looking mud tires on it. I have a mechanic that is waiting on what kind of lift kit I want installed. Is there a pic of yours on here? I really liked (I think it was Roadbullys Explorer ) but I think he had to go 6".. I'm thinking his is a different gen

Hey Jacob,
Im finally getting my 3" leveling kit done this week. After getting my Explorer up on a lift to see what shape everything was in. My mechanic recommend that I buy new loaded struts, the 3" leveling kit and new front / rear sway bar links. I'm going to go elite membership so I can post some before and after pics. But like you suggested, I'm going to decide on what tires to get after it's done. Im anxious to order my wheels, and have been looking at some different tire and rim options. Thanks again.

Also, you mentioned 32 are as big as I can go. I would like to get some 18's on it. 265/70 r18's are 32.6". Is there anything on here the explains what rims you need for a certain tire. I have the bolt pattern figured out. Just don't want to order the wrong rims when it comes time.

Be careful about the width of the wheel you're ordering I wouldn't go above 18×9/or 10. 265/75r18 should be okay. Just gotta make sure the tire wheel combo matches up as well as making sure you have enough back spacing
