Hi all I'm new to your forum but not new to the off road world. I own a off road shop but I don't work on very many Ranger. I have a customer that has a late 2000 Ranger that has a live axle and he wants to put lockouts on it for better fuel mileage. Will all the outer axle peaces swap over from a 99 Ranger to this 2000 and put a set of the AVM Hubs on it. or is there a better way to do this. Thanks for all your help in advance.

...first, welcome here...:D

...i don't have any answers for you but thought i would give you a bump...;)

I wouldn't expect more than a ½-1 MPG improvement, but yes, the earlier truck parts will swap over (it's been said that the wheelbearings are not as good on the '98-'00 PVH setup. although I haven't verified this myself).

I seriously looked into doing this. Yes, it can be done with parts from the 98/99 PVH front axle system. The cost to do it is very high in my opinion and according to Ford engineers you will achieve less than 1/2 mpg increase for your efforts.

I thought maybe it is still worth it to also reduce wear on the front drive system and to be able to use low range with 2WD. I found out no one is having long term problems with the live axle systems and the PVH system does have a smaller wheel bearing to make room for the hub. I have also seen that many PVH systems need to have the wheel bearing replaced sooner than I would expect them to be needed. That convinced me the cost of converting and maintenance was not worth it to be able to use 2WD lo and less than 1/2 mpg increase.

Thanks for all your input on this guys I'll tell my customer about this and I'll see what he wants to do. Again thank you!!!
