Well... the first problem is this noise. It is a sort of high-pitched noise that sometimes sounds like a strain and sometimes like an extremely fast pulse. It sounds like it is coming from the engine, right above the block, possibly something right under the plastic cover that says "4.0L[...etc]." The sound worries me greatly. I have never had timing belt trouble in any vehicle, so I don't know if that has a sound or what... maybe? Another problem is when the vehicle downshifts going (uphill usually) it makes a rattling sound, which usually goes away when I give it more gas. It sounds pretty bad and is fairly loud outside of the vehicle. Next problem... the transmission leaks. I am guessing from the front because the drops on the pavement are in the fron of the vehicle. I have to add a quart every other day or something like that. Somebody took a wild guess saying it was the seal, I don't know. Next... the brake shoes on the driver-side rear are cracked all the way around, I am replacing them in a few minutes. I'm not sure what it could be exactly, but my mother did drive to the store and back with the e-brake on one day about 10 months ago when she borrowed it. Any help would... help
Not sure about the high pitched sound. This is on the '92 correct?
Rattling sound on downshift sounds like spark knock (or pinging). Cause could be
dirty Mass Air Sensor (MAS) or carbon buildup. MAS can be cleaned, carbon buildup
can be removed using Seafoam or other cleanser. Search for more info on both.
Double posting if frowned upon. You could have bumped the other thread. First step is to replace the IAC. The OHV doesn't have a timing belt, it has pushrods, so thats not it. Check the heat sheild on the cats.
