Hey,

I've got a 96 E, and it is making a wierd noise, I've been through as many posts as I can read, but have yet to put my finger on the problem.

It happens only when i'm decelerating from 45-25 mph, and it is a thump thump thump thump. It only does it when the engine and tranny are cold. Any suggestions??

thanks in advance.

Hi Tim! Welcome to the forum!

You must not have searched for "thump thump thump" right? :D

I would of sworn I saw a thread with that exact title earlier today. Anyway, here it is: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=72199

I don't know how much it would apply to you. Maybe yours is only making the thump when the tires are cold?? I think it would be a good place to start (the tires).

Is your X 2 or 4WD? How long have you owned it?

Thanks,

Yeah i read that and i'm going to rotate the tires today, and greese the driveshaft. I guess we will see. It is a 4X4, I've also noticed that if i switch it in to 4X4 when it is doing this it goes away. This noise maybe the death of me.

thanks

Tim
