I was engaged on a little job replacing the retractable antennae on my 97 Explorer when I came across the ballcock. That was something I hadn't expected. However, search as I might I couldn't locate the WC it is meant to furnish with water.
I noticed a couple of things about the ballcock's ball float:
1. It has a couple of plastic lines attached to it.
2. The lines were extremely brittle.
3. A slight movement of the ball - extremely slight - and the lined snapped like well made brandy snaps.
4. The snapping of the lines [two at one blow] was accompanied by a slight hiss.
5. By this time I had abandoned the notion that I was in the bathroom [wet] plumbing department, hied to the study, searched the web to find out what department I was in, serendipitously came across ExplorerForum, searched, discovered HVAC, enjoyed the advice, pics, and am set to refit new vacuum lines - the morrow morn!
Thank you, chaps, for being there ...
