Yet another good tip! It is a good idea to have a spare car cell phone charger with that extra phone just in case.....

thank you

that helps and with the bag phones i get them for pennys at the garrage sales people dont want them and they use the cigarette lighter on allmost all of them and they are stronger they came out with ten watts factory settings witch get out better than some of the new phones:thumbsup:

if you can dial 911, what if someone wants to prank call them. how would they trace it if it had no #?

I think you are mistaken here

mcgyver ky,
The law is that the phone must be able to dial 911 even if it is not activated. If the phone has no signal, it has no signal. There is nothing anyone can do about that. I agree, it is a good idea to keep an old phone with you, but you are incorrect as far as guaranteeing a 911 call in an emergency situation.

Take care,
Elevatorguy

sorry i am not wrong

try it it is a law the story goes a woman was stranded in a snow storm and her service was disconnected and she died not being able to call and her family went to the courts and got it changed dont belive me try it when you see a accident call on a no service cell phone and see i have and it workes and i was stranded in west virginia my cell phone was dead and i used the bag phone it worked i do not put tips on here unless it has been tryied by me [ps prank calling did you see oj he was on the run and using the cell phone they found him i would suggest not to do that]

Many 911 systems do not have the ability to identify cell calls anyway.

I believe what Elevatorguy was trying to say was there is a difference between no siganl and no service. Meaning you know when your in the middle of the woods and you have no signal to be able to cal out. As opposed to no service where I can't call home because I didn't pay the bill but I could call 911 in and emergency.

:D Yeah no signal means you can`t even connect to the system because you are out of range of a cell tower, but when I cannot connect to a cell tower my phone will say "NO SERVICE".

I have a tip too. I find if I hold the phone between my left shoulder and ear when I am driving, then I can still steer with my right hand and hold my cigarette in my left hand. Then when I need to change gears or have a sip of coffee, I can lift up my left leg to hold the wheel steady. This also makes it safer to change cds, or eat burgers while on the fly as well! IMO it is very unsafe to try to turn corners with your leg though.

I have another cell phone tip...... STAY OFF THE DAMN THING WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING!!!!:fire: :shoot:

Sorry Macgyver but you are wrong

Macgyver you are, in fact wrong. Kevex and ld50 are right. You are failing to understand the difference between no service and no signal. If you are in a place where there are no towers, any law in the world cannot help you. If there is no signal to be used, how does the phone work? Think about it.

-muahahaha!

I love talking while driving :D some people shouldn`t do it though, but I am a pro, and this definitely doesn`t apply to me. Next they will ban radios from cars or something.

:D

(in case you don`t realize, I am joking)

That was the hardest thing to do in high school...drive my 5 speed Ford EXP (the car, not Explorer) and eat a burger. Damn near killed myself many times over.

The biggest problem is that people just can't think about driving and whatever they're talking about. My girlfriend should be banned from talking out loud when she drives. She needs zen-like focus just to keep her car going straight.

LOL You remind me of my friends stepdad "Larry" who would drive using his knee so he could hold his beer with one hand and cig with the other hand. He would also have the kids in the passenger seat steer for him too.

Every day I see women driving wile putting on make up,
people reading the news paper or a book , doing paper work.
One guy had his lap top on the dash board and was working on his computer. 65 mph, working on your computer.

Is is me or is this just insane?

I slow down and let then get ahead of me so I can keep an eye on them.

That is just flat out scarey.

Is is me or is this just insane?

Is Is just you.

Is is perfectly rational to only devote 5% of your attention to controlling a 3000 pound lethal weapon at 70 mph because you want to talk about nothing in particular to one of your friends.

Where is is that sarcasm smiley when you need it?

:D

Now THATS comedy!! :D

My buddy and I had just left the mall with ice cream cones(thus we couldn't put them down or they would make a big mess). he drove a manual and I had a stick. While driving, shifting, and eating his ice cream cone, I decided to call him. He actually answered the phone. (I waited until we were on a long stretch of road so he wouldn't HAVE to shift, I'm not that dumb). I couldn't believe he answered his phone.

This law has been in affect for some time now. My sister works for a cell company and she told me this like 4 yrs ago. So I picked up a cell at a garage sale and put it in my car. About 3 yrs ago I actually used in the mountains to call in a rollover accident. Worked just fine.

She also said that some cell companies set up the phones only to grab their towers or companies they have agreements with. I have seen her quickly reset her phone to grab any tower in the area.

as stated above, no signal and no service are 2 different things.... some areas there just isnt any type of coverage... so law or no law, dialing a call will still do nothing if nothing is around to respond to the transmission....
