Well a couple of weeks ago I bought a rebuilt A4LD and converter. The park prawl broke last week and I fixed that with the old one. Now today I leave work and it won't go into drive. Reverse is fine but no drive. So I hit the gas a little and it pops in. It drives fine through all its gears so I get home check the fluid and its clean and full. So I put it in drive again and nothing till I hit the gas and it pops in. Any help on what it could be??? I don't think its a slipping issue. I don't wanna take this trans out and ship it from NJ back to Cali.

Thanks

my a4ld does this sometimes, it was just rebuilt. My third one actually. In the morning, it will not change from 1st to 2nd for a good ten minutes of driving. Then sometimes ill hit the gas and the car moves slowly until it finally kicks and then moves. I have no idea what the problem is but Id love to know

Crazy... you have a classic stuck governor problem. How much did you pay for your rebuild?

$1000. 00 with the converter. Could it be a vacuum problem? Could it be the modulator? Can the gonvenor be checked with out pulling the trans? This truck is driving me crazy....

thanks

Actually that post was for Crazy who had a cold 1-2 shift issue... you my friend have other issues.... let me ponder a bit and post what some of your concerns might entail. But your concerns are not governor related...so NOT a governor for you (although THAT can be addressed without remove the trans again... for Crazy's reference).

I have to tell you I harbor strong doubts they went through the valve body.... a rats nest of problems awaiting on a high mileage tranny....[btw if ANYONE has a source for NEW A4LD valve bodies, PM me... I am having no luck.]

Opps sorry, but any help will do. Where should I start do you think?

Let me get back to you in this issue.... I need to ponder this one a little... How long ago was it rebuilt? (I'll not launch into my rebuilding the A4LD properly rant, it is in part 4 of the "My A4LD Diary" in the useful threads forum.)

I guess it was rebuilt recently. Its been in the truck since the beginning of December.

When you said you put it in drive, did you mean D or OD. They do operate differently. In OD power is transfered through a one way clutch. In D and manual1&2, that power is transfered through a different clutch. In a rebuild you likely have the origional one way clutch that was installed over 100K ago (maybe even the problem it was rebuilt for but they didn't catch). If it fails to move in D and OD it is likely a problem in the valve body.

It doesn't move in any forward gears now, and I just had to get towed. I'm gonna contact the shop I ordered from. This is just my luck!!!
