K the first pic is showing you a hole in the front driver side of the tranny, seem to be missing something. Beside it there is a blue air brake line a guy that owned it before me put on it, Its connected to a hard line. Now I tried my best to trace this line an it seems to go up by the fire wall an is held on the the bell housing of the training an does a u turn back towards the rear of the tranny. He has the blue air lone hooked to it an running up to the vacuum tree.. Could anyone tell me what this line is for an what I might be missing?

I don't believe it's for the vacuum modulator cause I was told that line is the hard line coming up on the passenger side of the motor an has a bracket holding it on the intake, then has a short rubber hose that connects to the vacuum tree.. Thanks in advanced for any help

Check the upper rear overfill connector. The hose might be connected to it. As for those extra holes, the side with the linkage has mounting holes for either a floor shift or a column shift. The opposite side has the hole to connect a heat shield.

Thanks BrooklynBay... But where is this overfill tank your speaking of? The blue hose there connects to the back of the vacuum tree on the intake, but like I said the hard line looks an feels like its the one that is braced on the bell housing an routed to the back of the tranny somewhere

There is no overfill tank. There is a fitting on the upper rear of the transmission which is sometimes connected to a length of hose looped around the top of the transmission.

K, so where does it hook up on the other end or does it not get hooked up? Say I had problem with tanny fluid in the air intake, if that is a overfill line that would explain why I had tranny fluid in there then right? Or wrong lol? Just thinking this cause if it is the over file line he put the blue line on it an ran it to the intake which sucked in tranny fluid if it was over filled..

That overfill line shouldn't go into the intake. It will draw fluid into the intake, and appear as if the modulator is bad when it isn't. This is the first time I've heard of anybody connecting this line into the intake.

LOL wow... Well I changed the modulator a few days ago, with a new on that has the lil adjusting screw on the end.. Now it is not wanting to shift into 4th gear let alone 3rd... takes off fine an shifts in 2nd around 25 depending how much your on the gas pedal... But back on that line it comes from the top of the tranny an is coming down the driver side of the tranny an is pointing straight down, As you can see from the pic that's where he put the blue air brake line on it an ran it to the vacuum tree... so where does the overfill line supposed to go to then?

An thing that is funny about it is, the guy I got the truck from is supposed to be this master mechanic. An everyone told me not to get it since if it was something so simple he would of fixed it, but looks like he cause more problems then fixing it..

Im gonna go ahead an put a new tranny filter in it an do a fluid change(not a flush) don't have money for that.. Hoping that fixes the shifting problem! An if that doesn't work you think I could just put the old modulator in to fix it?

With the shifting problem I drove it before changing the modulator an it seemed to shift but felt little late. But when I would drive it then I would baby it an seemed to shift fine. When I got it an got to checking the tranny fluid it was low... End up adding 3 quarts I believe.. This also explains why there was sucking from the tranny dip stick... When you got close to having it out all the way you could feel the pressure sucking.. And when i put the funnel in the tube to add fluid it would like gurgle the fluid in.. I disconnected the hose earlier today an drove it for a lil bit so will check to see if there is still fluid in the air intake

Did you remember to install the pin when you replaced the modulator? As previously stated, the other end of the overfill hose doesn't go anywhere. It's just looped around.[/QUOTE

Yes I put the pin back in with a little bit of vasolene on the end. An so I'm understanding you correct, the end of the line that is coming down underneath the vehicle an on the driver side of the tranny that is pointing straight to the ground doesn't get hooked up?

You are correct. It is just left open. The previous design of the A4LD case didn't even have a fitting for an overfill hose. It just had a little pressed on vent cover which kept dirt from getting into it.

K great! Thanks for the help Brooklynbay!! Tomorrow I'm gonna syfone some fluid out the filler neck to see if that helps the shifting incase I added to much fluid.. If that doesn't cure it then the filter is next.. An hope that does the trick if not I guess ill have to read up on the kickdown cable, band adjustment, an the servo's to fix the not wanting to shift into 3rd or 4th

Today I changed the tranny filter an fluid..Once I got done I toke it for a test drive an still did the same thing.. Would take off just fine an shift into 2nd around 20 mph, then it nothing rpms was bout 3000 an doing 45 mph an no shift... so I toke it easy an drove it in town to get gas since its been on E for a few days. Well on the way back it seemed to shift into 3rd an then again about 55mph things seemed fine... So let it sit for awhile an drove it an doing the same thing.. I didn't drive it much just down the road so it didn't have time to warm up really... So what could it be? Not sure if this means anything or not but the abs light is on, have not got any check engine light yet! So why would it not want to shift into 3rd an 4th, unless its warmed up an your nor getting on it?

I would recommend getting the codes read. It sounds like the VSS might be at fault.

They can get codes from it even if the check engine light is not on? An I'm gonna try an to get my hands on a volt meter, got alot of things to check.. An Thanks Alot for your help BrooklynBay

You could use a jumper wire to get it into the diagnostic mode. Check the 2 sticky threads in this link: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=114. One of them is already listed in post # 17.

Alright that was a pain in the butt, trying to figure out all the blinks time an what not.. been on it for almost 2 hours now.. What I came up with is 157 an 181... From the book says mass air flow sensor below minimum and adaptive fuel rich limit reached at part throttle , right side... would either of them have effect on the tranny?
