Well the 94 xlt I bought 2 months ago is acting up, I was driving down the road and all of a sudden it got stuck in 1st. I've driven it since then on several occasions, and it will shift through all of the gears, albeit with some coaxing. This is what happens- 1st to 2nd takes forever, unless I shift it manually (in which case it shifts fine), 2nd to 3rd I've only shifted manually so far and I rev it up and let off of the gas and it shifts, but If I shift too early from 2nd to 3rd it will try to jump into 1st again. It shifts into overdrive fine manually. Does anyone have any information as to what can be done? Is the tranny toast and I should just get a rebuild? Are there any low budget fixes for this problem? This was supposed to be the wife's first car, and she hasn't even had a chance to drive it as I was Ironing out the small bugs it had before this happened.

When cold, a delayed 1-2 shift usually means a gunked up governor, and when coupled with a bad 2-3 I'd say broken parts. Check the fluid color and get back to us.

The fluid is pale and smells a little burnt. I really appreciate your help, but I think at this point I might try to sell it to someone who would be willing to fix it, or find use for it as a parts car. Once again, thank you for your help.
