OK, here's the skinny.....
I bought a 1994 Exploder for my wife in a somewhat emergency situation.
I bought it from a co-workers father, it belonged to her deceased mother who had cracked both heads prior to her death.
New tires
New Brakes
Junkyard engine original 163k mile trans (I can only assume it has never been rebuilt)
Truck sat outside in the yard for 2-3 years while the engine and trans resided in the garage.
$500 (you bring trailer !)
I trailered it back to our shop, engine and trans were already mated together.
After changing wiring harnesses (Junkyard motor was out of a standard shift truck) I installed engine and trans in truck.
Realized they had LOST the oil cooling lines I had to fab new ones ( has additional cooler in front of radiator)
All new fluids throughout!, New battery, tried to fire it up...........
fuel pump looked like it was on the Titanic from sitting in the empty tank for years with 99% humidity!!!!!!!
New Pump......
Radiator sprung a leak......
New radiator!!!
Every thing checked out OK except O/D didn't engage.
While making the 40 mile trip home on a saturday (Wife in Exploder me in my 2500 HD) brakes begin to smoke on freeway!!!!!!!!!!
Stop at my mom's house to check things out, front rotors feel warped while slowing to a stop.(Apparently there was rust all the way around except where the pads sat for the last couple years causing high spots{remember "New Brakes})
New Rotors and front Pads........
While changing Rotors, Water pump seal lets go and all the NEW coolant on the ground!!!!!!!
New water pump
Finally.......begun the trip HOME AGAIN AT 10:00 PM!!!
1/2 way home temp gauge reads FREAKIN HOT!!!!!!! and A/C quits....
OOPS!!!! forgot to top of coolant after initial fill up while changing water pump (Totally my fault)......
10:45 PM on my way home yet again!!!!!
Home fine, couple leaky spots in driveway cleared up after a week or two all except P/S pump housing leak (Easy fix w/ new O-ring)
Now on to diagnose O/D
Snap-on/ Bluepoint scanner finds Absolutely nothing wrong with anything I ran it 4 times to be sure and went through every test it would support.
Check engine light appears to have a blown bulb as it fails the KOEO initial bulb check.(I'll fix this soon enough)
This truck has a build date of 1/94 so apparently no O/D light nor switch to turn it on/off.
here's the symptom..........
NO O/D however if I get it up to speed and the let off the accelerator engine RPMs fall to about 1700 or so around 55-60 MPH, step on gas and they bounce back up to 2000. If I let it coast at 1500-1700 RPM and downshift to 3rd(Drive) they jump up to 2000........
Ohh! and yes the TCC is working properly (At first I thought it was O/D working)
This tells me OD Solenoid is engaging but O/D is slipping/Not there!!!!!
Just exactly would be my most likely culprit in transmission?????
Thanks to all that have read this.....
