Haynes (page 7B-5, left column; 1992 ed.) says to simply "remove the transmission filler (dipstick) tube (see illustration 6.18)."
I've been looking at both illustration 6.18 and at my 1993 4WD X for several minutes and I'm not seeing this. It looks like there is a mount tab bolted to the car about 1/3 of the way up the tube. Do I just undo that and yank the tube out?
Also, there is a lot of dirt around the base of the filler tube that I would like to keep out of the transmission. Will I ruin any transmission (servo?) gaskets if I blast the dirt off with some carb. cleaner? I don't have compressed air available.
