Thanks to you guys' information-sharing, I succeeded in getting my A4LD ('93 V6 140,000mi) to respond better to the shifter in cold weather. I did the servo O-ring-to-D-ring replacement and have changed the fluid and filter twice.

However, this week it's been exceptionally cold in Dallas (below 25F at night), and that first shift into D (after backing out of the driveway) has gone very sluggishly -- D takes a good 10 seconds to engage.

Is there anything else I can try to get this resolved? It's definitely better than it was, but not quite there.

Hmm. So the pin may be worn. Great find!

One detail I forgot to add is that I'm unsure whether the D-rings I used were state-of-the-art. I've read here about a "double lip" D-ring. The one (K3435L) I got locally from Transtar is listed in their catalog (may require registration) just had a round, D profile -- nothing I would call "double lip" based on the descriptions I've read.

BTW, many thanks for your abundance of gracious help at this forum.

Thank you for the kind words. Pin worn? Well, maybe the band just needs more travel to engage fully? Anyway I picked up some of these but have not had the occasion to try one out....if you can't find them let me know and I will get one to you.... and you can be the guinea pig!
