my 2000 explorer sport 2wd has 111,000 miles.but just recently after i go in reverse, then put it in drive,it goes into drive kinda hard.i come to a complete stop and even wait for the rpm's to idle down a bit to around 1000 rpm.there is no noise, but when it goes into drive the whole truck jerks.no other gear does it.not park into drive, neutral into drive,etc...it doesn't do it every time, but i would say 6-7 times out of 10 atleast.i dont think its the trans.especially since i just got the whole thing rebuilt a year and a half ago.i thought it could maybe be a u-joint.if anyone has any suggestions or thoughts,i would appreciate it!thanks.

Does it make a Clunk noise?

When you go into reverse, stop fully and apply brake, then shift into drive, does it go like Clunk or really hard.

My 1993 does this once in awhile too samething 6/10 times it will do it.

I am guessing it is a rearend gear or bearing issue or front gear or bearing issue on mine, but it only does it at times like yours.

It is like a kick in the pants jolt that my truck does.

I'd suspect the u-joints in your driveshaft are likely the culprit. Take a closer look at them..

yup its exactly like a kick in the pants jolt.but i dont hear no noise.i just went down and tried it again,it does it from neutral to drive sometimes to.but mostly from reverse to drive.i tried to go from reverse to neutral, then wait a few seconds then put it into drive.it does it sometimes, but not everytime.the lower the rpm's are it seems less to do it.but even when i let it idle as low as it is going to go,then put it into drive,it still will do it sometimes.

yea thats what im thinking to.this friday after i get off work i'll jack it up and check them out.now should i put it in park when i check them? or put it into neutral?or into a certain gear?

It can be what i mentioned as i have the front Diff Leaking oil around seal, i forget if i was in 4x4 when mine does it.

It can be rear diff bearing too on yours or mine or worse case gears.

You can have a u-joint loose, i just checked mine a few weeks back when i changed my driverside ball joints, i checked all my u-joints at that time and all are good.

But play in the bearings = play in the gears = clunk or jolt in pants can happen.

Check U-joints and bearing play... well leakage yada, yada, yada

yea it could be that in my rear end.since im only 2wd.im going to check u-joints friday.i know its not leaking.but 111,000 miles and driven kinda hard at times.....it could be u-joints,bearings,gear,etc....
