About to pull the trigger on a 91 explorer

Get it! $400 lol...trannies aren't that expensive from the junkyard...few hours under the truck...pretty decent deal

You're a little more generous than me...lol. I was thinking around $250, pay to get it hauled home, junkyard tranny and still in to it for around or less than the $1300 he was willing to offer to begin with.

Well I do my own hauling and a tranny at a junkyard will run me almost $200...personally, I'd be looking at $700 in the truck including a seafoam treatment, fluid flush, new fluids and filter on the junkyard tranny if it was me lol. :D But, to each his own...

If all else is in really good shape, maybe buy it as a parts donor and keep looking for another.

At least on this one you know the trans was very recently working okay and is a good core for a rebuild.

Well bad news... We pulled into our meeting place to see the explorer and I get a call. They said the explorer was stuck on the side of the road with a busted tranny lol. Drove two hours and didn't see a thing. Oh well.

Where are you that Ex's are that rare. Here in phoenix I could choose from a dozen on any given day.

Maybe he was driving south to get out of the rust belt. Hopefully he had some kind of tow vehicle knowing it had a bad tranny.

offer them 200, replace the transmission with an 01+ ranger 5 speed. HD synchros, wont have this problem again.

invest in 93+ heads (cheap on ebay) you'd probably get another 180k out of it and only be around 700-800 into it and have a decent ride if the rest of it is ok. thats what id do
