my wipers were acting up a few months ago. they only worked sometimes, certain speeds. but for the past month or two, only the high speed works. i turn the switch on all the speeds and the wipers don't move. when i turn them on the highest speed, they work. if i turn them off while running on high speed, they just stop before returning all the way down. do i need a new wiper motor?

I'd lean more towards a switch problem in the MFS (Multifunction Switch) than the wiper motor, they're notoriously going bad in the Ex...

The only thing that would worry me vs. the motor is how they up and quit though. That can be a motor.

That probably didn't help at all. :)

X2, I bet it's the MFS, I also need a new one.

My squirters don't work unless my wipers are on level 1, and there's like 4 settings that don't work, and when on high, 90% of the time they go slow or stop.

I got quoted 66$ at Napa for one, don't know if it's OEM or what but it's on my list

how much is a new switch? and how hard is it to replace? i would hate to spend $57.00 on a new motor and its only the switch. but it could be the other way around.

It's 66$ at napa like I said, and from what I've read it's a very easy job, maybe 30-40 minutes if that

i saw one at autozone for $57.00 plus $25 core charge. so after i get the old one off and take it to autozone, i'll get the $25 back. yea when i have the money i'll probably go ahead and do that. i looked in my haynes book and it don't seem to hard.

the switch is fine the motor contacts are going bad or the connector to the motor it's self is dirty. on my brothers windstar it was the connector my explorer it was the motor. clean the connector with a spray cleaner of your choice if that doesn't work its the motor test the motor by powering the motor using test leads Kris

Maybe its more at NAPA, because its OEM or something, id go with the AutoZone one though. But yeah, its basically taking some bolts out, and unhooking the harness.
