ok, so here is what i have, if any one could please help. i have a 92 explorer that im trying to get up and running again, been working on it for 2 months since it quit on me, a buddy hooked the battery up backwards one night, and now it isnt getting fire, which i think i have almost figured out. but the main thing that boggles my mind is that the windshield wipers will not shut off at all. anyone know what would be the cause of that and how to fix it?

try a different forum.. like mechanics/techs..not the modified forum
might hav better luck gettin a response

btw.. you may hav just shorted the wipers..or like "jumped" them by somehow crossing a wire and grounding out a wire that's causing them to run manually without the switch

ok thanks alot. im post it over there and ill investigate my wipers some more.

I deleted the thread in the Tech Forum, because that's not what it's for...

I'll move this one to "Under the Hood" forum, and I'm sure you'll have better luck in there.

ok sorry about that, but thanks, not real sure the best or right places to post things, dora the 4x4'a told me to try posting it in the mechanics/ tech forums thought that was it.

One interesting observation I made while cleaning up my fuel pump ground. I don't remember the specifics, but while I was going through the fuel pump ground wiriong, the wipers started doing funny things. Sorry, I can't remember if it was just while having the ground disconnected or one of the related connectors unplugged under the hood. If you're having an issue with the wipers not shutting off, check the fuel pump ground and the connectors related to it. I don't fully understand what happened, but, as much wiring as you have on these cars, when something gets disconnected, the current sometimes finds odd ways of finding ground.

ok i will look into that first thing in the morning, that would make sense if i melted a wire somewhere and its grounding itself out or whatever it does. and there are alot of wires on that thing, i found a few fuse links that were burned out and replaced those thinking it would fix the wipers and get it to start but i cant see where it did anything yet.

ok so after a few hours of tinkering and an ohms meter i think i have the problem of not getting any spark down to the ignition module, or the PCM. but probably both the way its looking, anyone know exactly how to test the PCM?

IMO 1st step in testing those is to pull codes from the computer. Some times there are codes that will help point you in the right direction.

After that, most "tests" for a bad PCM are process of elimination -- meaning that you eliminate all other possible causes and, if they check out, the PCM must be at fault. It's a pretty tall order to eliminate all other possible causes.

If you can get one, you can do the "guess and check" approach (ie, get a known good PCM and install it and see if that fixes the problem), but then, if it doesn't fix the problem, you're out the cost of the PCM.

Can you describe how you've come to the conclusion that it's either PCM or ICM? I've seen a few seemingly frustrating cases for a no spark that, once the person inspected the wiring carefully, found a bad ground for the ICM or PCM. I don't know how thoroughly you've checked, but don't forget to check the power and grounds for the PCM.

well i have power going into the ICM, in the wires that plug into it. so i know its getting power up to that point. but there is nothing coming out of the PIP, IDM, SPOUT, or ignition no. 1, 2 or 3. so i was figuring that it was burned up, but then i got to wandering if maybe the PCM was fried and it wasnt sending something to the ICM which wasnt letting it work correctly.
