2000 XLT, V8. Left and Rear Brake lights stopped working. Tailgate light works fine. Next day, noticed ABS light on. Can they be related? Any suggestions on what to look for. Thanks for your time.

My ABS light was on, took it to the dealer and they replaced the rear speed sensor, hasn't come on since.

if your 3rd brake light is out it might trip the abs lamp on. Come across this all the time at work.

what ever came of your problem?

Had the ABS & Brake light on in mine and it turned out to be the fluid level sensor in the reservior

Problem Solved

The Brake lights themselves were simply the bulbs. I can't imagine both bulbs going at the same time, unless there was a short somewhere. All I can figure is that one bulb had been out for awhile and I didn't know it. Usually John Q. Law let's me know about these things rather quickly. I did manage to change my bulbs before putting it in the shop, as I didn't want the mechanic to call me before he finished laughing and tell me 50 bucks for labor.

As for the ABS light... by the time I finally put it in the shop, the right front pads were completely gone. ABS light went out after the brake job was done. I never heard any grinding, but felt it pretty bad the night I put it in the shop.

Thanks for your suggestions. Great site here. :burnout:
