I have a 4 wheel drive 1999 mountaineer. The ABS light came on and the codes are 1230(Rear brake sensor), 1342(control module -$700+ part), 1102(G-switch). The most common probelm seems to be the rear sensor. If it is bad could it cause the other codes?

Thanks

I can't imagine all 3 going bad at once. Probably just the rear sensor. Mine just went out in 99 Explorer. Its located on top of the differential a little off center toward the driver's side. One bolt holds it in - unplug wire harness, remove bolt, twist it side to side a little to loosen O-ring, and wiggle back and forth while lifting up on it. Be sure to clean around the sensor well before removing it so dirt or rust doesn't drop into differential. Takes maybe 10 minutes to replace. You can check sensor with ohm meter to be sure its bad. If it has zero or infinite resistance, its bad.

Got my replacement sensor at NAPA for $11 so its a cheap fix and simple to do.

Here's a link with info on checking G-switch

ABS light and codes

You were right. I replaced the rear sensor and the ABS light went out. I am hoping this fixed the problem. I will have the codes cleared and see what happens. Thanks ;)

Thank you for having this post. I have the 1102 and the 1230 codes on my 99 Explorer. I’m hoping it’s just the sensor and I can also fix it for $11-ish. Will update when I do it!
