Hi,

97 Explorer XLT

A buddy of mine changed my left driver wheel bearing and now the ABS light is on all the time (ever since he replaced it). As expected, I had the code on the ABS computer scanned and it's a bad wheel sensor. They are recommending changing the whole bear assembly again for $500.

Is it possible to diagnose or repair the wheel sensor or wiring to see if there's an easier fix for this?

Thanks for your time.

Rob

Well...

First up, who are "they"? :shifty_ey And did your buddy know what he was doing when he started working at it? Meaning, what does the buddy think?

"They" are the local brake shop. I paid them $40 to check the code on the ABS. The buddy thought that it was a defective wheel sensor, but didn't know for sure which side as he had replaced both and didn't have an ABS computer scanner.

Now we know it's the driver's side and I just want to know if replacing the whole bearing assembly again is necessary, or if it's possible to repair or replace the wheel sensor or wiring.
