Hi guys. I replaced the front pads a few days ago, and had the rear wheels off tonight. I cannot find any sensors or tone rings for the ABS, but I know the X has it. Anyone know where the wheel speed pick-ups are for the ABS?
Thanks.

P.S. I have a low speed shudder when turning, and I suspect it's related to the ABS system.

Your rear ABS is sensed by a single sensor on the top of the rear differential. Only the front wheels have individual sensors.

Yeap robert your right there should be a sensor on top of the diff in the middle. it's funny because i remember looing for my rear senso's one time and soon to notice that i had a sensor not sensors but i guess looking for that abs rear sensor could get a like tricky:confused:

Thanks for the info on the rear sensor, guys. But what about the front? I just did a front brake job, and did not notice any sensors on the front rotors.....

I have the original window sticker for the X, and it says that the vehicle has ABS. I can't see any front sensors, though.

I've gotta buy a repair manual for this thing.....

The front ABS sensors on my '97 are mounted to the back side of the wheel hub. Look for a small (approx. 1/4" diam.) wire harness going to the back side of your hub.

Are you sure you can not find a tone ring or the sensor? If anything when you look at it, it should have a good 7/8s inch open hole where the sensor is (or was). I'm sure you have it. It sounds like a tone ring split. Does it pull to one side under breaking. You said it has a shudder at low speed. Not when appling breaks? If you don't touch the breaks and you have a shutter I would look somewhere else.

Thanks guys. I found it. I followed the wiring harness going down the back of the spindle. When I replaced the front pads, the sensor and wiring wasn't apparent when looking from the outside.

About the low speed shudder: I suctioned out and replaced about a quart of power steering fluid (Dexron ATF), and the shudder went away. This was about the same time that I replaced the pads, so I can't say for sure what cured it. I have a feeling that a valve was sticking in the rack, and the new fluid loosened it up.

I just recently bought the X, and I'm trying to fix some little things that are wrong with it. Thanks for the help!
