Hello ALL, I've a 2003 Ford Explorer 4.0 (V6) with 136,000 miles. Issue: AC Compressor overheated while driving and was making a strange noise. Pulled vehicle over, open the hood, evaluated engine area, smelled very strong odor and seen sparks of fire coming from AC clutch area (front of compressor). After turning off AC switch, the noise faded away but I can still hear it occasionally while listening to engine run. Questions: Have any of you experienced this issue with your Explorer? What was the problem and resolution? I think the AC clutch and or pulley went out on it based on research on You Tube. Basically need to know what part I probably need (AC clutch, pulley, coil or is it cheaper to just buy another compressor) and have this one depressurized. Hopefully, the clutch, pulley and or coil can be purchased separately at a reasonable price. Thanks, (P.S. Could the problem be the relay for the AC?).
