This is the second time i've had this problem with my 1995 XLT explorer. For whatever reason the AC now only works on the max setting. It's fine in terms of air temperature, both hot and cold works fine, all the vents work. But air only comes out on the 4th (max) setting.

I don't remember how it started working after the first time, but it's becoming kind of annoying. Does anyone know how to fix this, or at least what the problem is?

Thanks

Its the resistor. It is located below the blower motor (under the hood).

I second that. My 94 had the same problem when I bought it. Under the hood, passenger side on the side of the blower motor. You will see a wire connecter there with two bolts. Remove them the resister is on the other side of this connecter(inside the blower motor housing). I don't remember what fix I did but yours will either need cleaned or replaced. If I remember right I just cleaned mine it was very dirty. Hope this helps and good luck.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses.

I talked to the local ford parts shop about it and they have the resistor in stock for pretty cheap. So that's good news.

My question is, do ya'll have a link or anything for instructions on how to take that apart and get at it?

The way they described it to me at the store was that it was inside the compartment under the dash. It doesn't appear that's the case, judging from ya'lls responses.

Anyways, I'm pretty capable with tools, but for the most part I'm only familiar with the audio systems in these trucks, and I haven't done much with anything under the hood. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

- Conrad

Another option to look into is the blower relay. When I fist picked up my Ex the blower worked intermittently. After two weeks of wondering if I was going to get air after I turned the key, I decided something needed to be done. I looked at the resistor, but I also noticed in the manual that there was a relay as well.

When I pulled out the the relay from the fusebox the thing was burnt on the bottom. You can tell on these relays if they are bad or not by seeing if the white bottom of the relay has turned brown. Replaced it and it has worked ever since. A $12 fix.

No, its in the large box under the hood on the driver's side.

Relay (ignore the writing on it)

BTW nice system on your car domain site. I really like the stealth box. Wish I had talent like that :D !

Doesn't sound like a relay issue....my blower relay melted itself and the yellow retainer piece and it still worked in all positions....

My bets on resistor.

Thanks :)

I'm actually gonna go work on this now, so i'll let ya'll know what happens.

Yeah, it was the resistor. It took a little while longer than I thought to get out, but that was the problem.

It turned out it wasn't actually burned out, the connection was just badly corroded. I'd already bought the new one, so i just put it in, but I'm pretty sure the old one would work if i cleaned off the connections.

Thanks for the help.

Ok, good thing.

My max ac works however the regular ac does not. I have changed the resistor this made my variable speeds work but the ac with temp selections is not working?

AC won't cool on regular, only max

Just picked up a 03 Sport Trac for my son. Great deal awesome truck. But the AC only blows cold on Max, when turned to regular AC it is red hot, the 2 lines that run into the firewall under the hood 1 is cold 1 is hot all the time, there is no adjustment on temp either, the compressor seems to kick on and off as expected and doesn't seem to put any strain on the motor, I'm lost with AC stuff, any help would be great, everyone here seems pretty knowledgeable, thanks!
