2000 Mountaineer
Hey all, I am new to this site and was hoping for a little help. My wife has a 2000 Mountaineer V8 power everything (she is high maint).

Recently she started to have problems with her AC. The problem originally started when she would turn off her AC and fan it would still continue to blow thru the defrost. No big deal I could live with that. Now the AC quit working completely. Its still blowing thru all vents just only hot air. AC will not come on at all.

Can you give me some ideas of where I should start looking and what I should start testing to locate this problem. Also would this be a coolant issue where I need to add more?

Thanks for all your help.

PS... I live in BHC, AZ and currently temps are around 110, so this is pretty important for me to fix, thanks again.

The defrost thing--might be a vacuum issue?

Take a look under the hood and see if the compressor is running, and then feel the accumulator and see if it feels cold. If it is, maybe there's an issue with the controls, in my old car the heater vent wouldn't open and I blew it off, but later on I suspected vacuum issues were causing trouble with the A/C, too.

Don't add refrigerant until you know the system does indeed need more. You don't want to overcharge it.

first check the compressor to ensure its even working while the a/c is on, if the lines are hot cold like they should be and its still blowing warm/hot air there must be something wrong with the blend air system in the dash for hot and cold air
