AC vent problem

AC problem. Air was being blocked from coming out of vents. Mechanic found door broken in ductwork. Disconnected door. Worked great for one day. Next day air will only come out of windshield defroster vents. Cools fine, just comes out of defroster vent only. ????????????????

The door he disconnected may be one that selects the direction and flow of the air. You might want to see if this is the case.
