Considering an ST-Line to replace my 10 year old Malibu.
Anyone know if the paddle shifters (and M shift knob) can be retrofit to a ST-Line? Or would you have to replace the whole wheel?
I recall similar being done on the F150s when I had my 2016, but can't recall if they were able to just add the paddles or if it required swapping in the Raptor wheel.

Edit: Posted to wrong subforum, can a mod move, please?

Welcome to the Forum.

I don't have the answer but I'm guessing that it likely would not be just a simple job. Also, you would probably run into possible warranty issues.

I remember it being a simple swap on the F150 [plug & play IIRC], but it was only the wheel.
Not sure how a non-paddle with the L shift knob would function, or if the shift knob would need to be replaced & some ForScan done to get it reset to Timberline-spec.

Not sure why you would have to use a Raptor wheel. My 2021 XLT w/Sport Appearance pkg has paddle shift so I don't think it would be that big of a deal. I'm really surprised that the ST wouldn't already have it.

This was back in 2016 when only the Raptor had the paddles.
Looks like only the Timberline & ST get paddle shift on the Explorer. ST-Line does not.

Edit to add: My F150 & prior Flex had manual shifting via a button on the console shifter. Our Exped has +/- on the console.
Found it off that the Explorer only has L, with no manual shift option outside of the ST/Timberline

We have a 2021 XLT with the trailer tow package, which included the manual shift option with paddle shifters. That option includes a lot more than just a hitch, really worth it.

Thanks, wondering if it's a content removal similar to the Auto-Stop & rear AC removals.
Wonder if the 23s will get it back.
