Had 3/8 tank of gas and added techron(treats up to 12 gal. size) and took the truck out for a spin and noticed on hard takeoffs a ton of smoke? I swiss cheesed the air box yesterday and dissconnected the battery for an hour. Am I in trouble or is this just the result of a good cleaning going on in the motor? The truck sounds and performs much better after the swiss.

What is techron? I know Shell has that stuff that they have added into their fuel, but most of the time you shouldn't get any smoke coming out. Smoke from cleaning is usually only from induction cleaning products (i.e. BG or Seafoam). Good luck

Clean your MAF wires with electronic parts cleaner-$10
Adjust the throttle position sensor-$0
Bottle of Techron-$4
Fuel filter-$7
Spark plugs-$30
PAPER air filter-$8 (I have a link for why if interested)

If you have not done these you will waste your money on the high dollar stuff and not the gains you would otherwise get. I know Im missing some stuff...

I'd love to see that link about the paper filters...

Most likely its the techron working - although techron usually does not smoke that much, you concentrated it pretty well. If you try Seafoam through the intake manifold it will look like the back of your truck caught fire when you hit the accelerator hard.

Does your V8 use oil between changes? Some of the V8's suck oil up through the PCV valve and that really carbons up the engine.

Hard acceleration helps blow out the carbon. Most times the catalytic converters burn it, but you are probably blowing more than it can handle. I would run another bottle or two of techron through it until you do not see any more carbon. Performance should improve as you clean out the engine!

I too would like to see the link for paper air filters...

I want to see it too. I copied that post from another post.

Swiss sounds good..Add more gas,or let it run down a bit (gas). The smoke will go away towards the end after your next FILL UP.In time when you use addtives always add to a full tank of gas. Some adds. are stronger some weaker (I found you can't go by price on this, some cheap work great some pricey work troubly.remember I said "some" it does'nt always work that way.),buier beware.Fill up go from there!Good luck...
