Help, please….

First, I am not a Rocket Scientist when it comes to audio, so please, please, make explanations simple.

I want to add a subwoofer to my factory system. I am looking at the MTX ThunderForms / Amplified ThunderForms from Crutchfield.

My questions:
(1) will this vastly improve my sound quality?
(2) how do I install it?
(3) I do plan to upgrade the door speakers
(4) I want to keep the factory HU

Thanks, guys….

Are you going to be at Bubbas the 31st, if so you can check out my system..I don't have a sub, only aftermarket speakers..With the rocfords you really don't need a sub unless you want brain jarring lows..

Sorry, I do not know what Bubba's is??????

What speakers do you have? Do you have an amp in your system?

Thanks....

Check Fl. Club Thread for info on Bubba's..Yeah I do have an amp, Rockford 250 w/ 4 Rockford 5x7's..The speakers were to much for the factory amp to handle. Also have a Pioneer head unit and changer..Makes for a nice balanced system.Without all the boom, boom, boom..

1. Your opinion, it *will* add to the lower end frequency, giving you a wider range of music, but it won't change your existing quality. So you'll get better low end, but it won't do anything to your mids or highs. In the end though, yeah, most people love 'em!

2. Download this or go to the following website:

Dead Link Removed

(Above is SUPER pic intensive, most people say the job is rewarding and not too hard, my box is still sitting in a corner of my room)

3. That will increase your sound quality

4. No problem, if you buy from Crutchfield, they give you painless adapters that snap the speakers right in, if not, then buy your own and just splice the new speakers in - about ten minutes more. Also, the amped MTX stealthbox has speaker inputs, so all you're doing is tapping off existing rear speaker wire, and connecting to the amp. Plus one 8 or 10 guage wire to ground it and one to run to the battery.

Good luck,

Jon

depending on what you want to do, you may need a new HU. I dont know if they started putting pre-outs on fatory hu's as of 91, but unless you want it running off the stock amp, you'll need them. My opinion on the factory amp is that it shouldnt be used for subs. Its a 4 channel and doesnt put out enough watts. I suppose it could add some bass, but you'd be better off getting higher quality door component speakers that will give you more bass. just my personal opinion, but i'm more of an SPL junkie then a SQ.

good luck,
Jeff aka Lamah
