is there anyway to hook up a 3.5mm headphone jack to my stock radio? i have a 6 disc CD changer, that I never use, or will ever use, so from what I remember about my BMW's changer there was a way to hook up a piece that plugs into the 6 disc players connection on the back of the head unit and then hook up the 3.5mm jack via RCA cables.

that probably doesnt make too much sense, but its tough to search for mp3 on the forums because of the 3 letters being too small, and searching for ipod brings back mostly ipod only installs with the bottom of the ipod charger/connection

If it's the same head unit as in the '98 XLT, then I don't think so. I wanted to plug my phone/MP3 into my head unit, but I didn't find a way to do it with stock parts. I ended up going to Best Buy and getting an inexpensive Kenwood head unit and just replaced the whole thing.

I have tried countless FM units and have never been satisfied with them.
If you're gonna go that route and have the stock HU from an XLT, and don't have the budget for a new HU, I'd just get a tape adapter and be done with it. They cost almost nothing anymore, they don't take their own batteries, the sound quality is way better than an FM transmitter, and there is no interference from local radio stations.
Even the best FM transmitters need to be adjusted as you move from city to city. If your stock unit has a tape-deck, I'd go with that.

I purchased one off Ebay that used my cd changer function in my Mountaineer.
It was a '00 but I believe your radio is the same.
It was listed as a satellite radio input jack but it serves the same function. $60 and it works great.
I removed and sold the CD changer on Ebay and it covered the cost of the aux input.
I just select CD on my radio and it goes straight to the input. Crystal clear sound quality since it's sending a direct signal..

PM me if you want the link...I've got the paperwork at home.
