Adjustable FPR

Anybody know where I can get an adjustable FPR for my explorer? Any experience with em out there? How do they replace the exsiting unit?

I.M.H.O.,

The only reason one would use an adjustable fuel pressure regulator is if you’re running under boost or you have otherwise increased your engines need for fuel. You would use an adjustable FPR to “tune” your motor. Otherwise, the stock ECU takes care of fuel demand.

Somebody correct me if I’m wrong but if your running a stock computer, adjusting the fuel pressure would not be beneficial and could actually trigger an error code!

Yup, messing with the fuel mechanically without computer compensation will trigger an error code and could cause all sorts of running problems. The computer needs to know why you're getting more fuel or be fooled into thinking it's "all good". I learned this when we tried to fire up Splat with the blower installed but not the new computer. The stock computer went WTF? and caused all sorts of problems.

Hmmm. You took a motor that normally runs under less than 1 atmosphere and crammed 7+ pounds of boost into the combustion chamber BEFORE installing an upgraded ECU? Yeah, I’ll say you’ll get errors! Running a little lean were we?

How’s she running now? Got the kinks worked out yet? And how is the trans holding up?

Ill echo what Camron, and Alec said earlier. You dont need an Adjustable FPR if you are running stock. If you want to increase the fuel you can use larger injectors with a calibrated or adjustable MAF, or a chip (programmed correctly of course). There really is no need to increase the fuel flow until you get the engine producing 225-230 hp, or you have some type of forced induction- and the kit will(should) come with some type of fuel management.

ok... first thing... how did you guys know what an FPR is? I'm no dummy but all these acronyms that people are using these days make no sense.

Heheh... thanks guys (I think) . Anyways... the reason I ask is that the last few times I was in at the dyno... the guy was saying I could probably use a bit more fuel. oh well... I want a supercharger though.

Get an air/fuel ratio gauge. It will indicate if you’re running lean at WOT. If so, a larger fuel pump, injectors and a regulator may be in order. Then, you would need your chip reprogrammed with the new components.
