Hi,

Just picked up this new 2013 Ex on Saturday. Drove it home (we bought it about 300 miles away from where we live). Then the next morning in the morning light, we saw this flaw in the pain. You can see an "arrow" almost of lighter colored paint on the right side front door panel.

My boyfriend says it looks like something happened there, so they repainted, and did a poor job. This thing is brand new, so I'm pretty irritated right now. Any advice, or do we just have to suck it up? You can only really see it in the right light, but when you can, it is so obvious.

I would take it to a dealer- doesn't have to be the one you bought it from... But, first I might elevate the claim through Cory here via PM- FordCustSrvc is his username and he can help get it handled... Recent dealer track records are suspect at best. Might get Cory involved now and save some heartache...

I had somewhat of a similar problem...they scratched my front bumper where the paint came off......i had them order a new bumper and they painted the bumper. Like I told them I ordered a new truck and when I receive it I want all new parts not damaged parts, if I wanted damaged parts I would have bought a used truck......jus my suggestion...

If it bugs you now, it's not going to stop bugging you. Have the dealer fix it.

Hey, I just noticed you're from Rhinelander ..... Back in the day I used to go camping at Camp Tesomas. Go Pack Go.

Welcome to the Forum Readmeli.:wavey:
Sorry to hear about the paint problem. This is something that your dealer should have spotted in the pre-delivery inspection. I don't see any option other than having the door repainted. As I look at the photo, it looks like the front edge of the right rear passenger door. Good luck.

It actually looks like the dealer may not have missed it, the transporter could have nicked it, and the dealer saw it pre-d, then did a horrid job of trying to touch it up. Hard to match metal flake with small fixes as such. Ford- again- questionable dealerships + your reputation = any questions?

Sorry Dude, I feel your pain !!

Thanks guys. I PM'd Cory, maybe he can help somehow. I also emailed the dealer, and they suggested bringing to a dealer to look at. Will keep ya all posted!

Go pack!

wikidhd, jrmexplorer, & Peter,

Thanks for helping out with your recommendations.

I confirmed your PM is in my inbox, Readmeli. I answer PMs in the afternoon, so expect a reply soon.

Cory

Thanks!

Tell you one thing, be very leary/careful of Ford (really any dealer) actually doing the paint work and stripping/matching/prepping. Mainly with actually buffing and finishing the paint, that's where so many are sloppy and don't know how to handle a rotary that the dealers/shops use, paint may look fine but upon closer inspection and under good lighting you'll see buffer burn trails galore.

Thanks Beach, thanks Cory. Cory, I responded to your PM last night.

My boyfriend used to work on cars, painting, etc. He's a real pain in the... when it comes to that stuff, so nothing less than perfection would be accepted.

I'm just annoyed neither one of us noticed this when we bought it!

Can be hard to see unless in the right light, don't beat yourself up about it. :)

beach is right though about the finishers/detailers- most dealership detail departments are awesome at popping off a DISO as part of their price. Sometimes inferior products, equipment, dirty pads, or techs that really don't know what they're doing. I've fixed a few DISO's and some are quite scary.

DISO

Just to update on this... after lots of phone tag, and then finally email tag, I am bringing my Ex down to get the paint flaw fixed to an area repair shop. Ford has been very good about it, though I'm not thrilled with the multiple 2 hour drives I've had to make. Ah well! I do love my Explorer however!!

We towed with it a few weeks ago and it was great. Darn we love that backup cam.

So, we got the paint flaw fixed no problem. I picked it up thursday evening, examined the paint job closely, and was very satisfied. Drove home. Drove to work Friday, and parked in my typical spot, where NOBODY can park next to me. Drove home. Saturday morning we were getting ready to head out for the day, and noticed two small DENTS IN MY HOOD!

I cant believe it. There is no possible way this happened anywhere but at the body shop. I callled them and left a message saturday. They werent open - so far, no call back this morning. I am not looking forward to this. I am sure this will not go down well. And, the place is an hour (one way) drive for me, and they close at 5, so I have to leave work an hour & a half early each time I have to go there.

:-(

Glad you got the initial issue fixed to your satisfaction. The hood however, many be a tougher problem. It will likely turn out to be one of those 'he said, she said' issues. Since it took almost 2 days to see the dents, are you 100% certain they were there when you picked it up Thursday evening?

I know it's a bad situation. But, there really is no way this could have happened. I park in particular spots where people can't park in front of me, etc. I don't have kids who might have done something. The car goes safely in garage at night. I didn't see it when I picked up because I was looking at the side door, then anywhere else I was looking at the vehicle was from the side or back until Saturday morning.

I did speak to the shop, and he said to come down and he'd take a look. He neither confirmed nor denied it happened there, and did mention that they didn't do the usual walk through of the vehicle with me.

Hopefully gets resolved, but I do realize the he said/she said of it.

Readmeli: Is your vehicle Ginger Ale? Wondered if it was the same color and if they are having a problem with this color. The original round lighter spot on your door looks very much like the four 2-3" round spots on my hood & top.......Still trying to get some answers out of Ford. I am beginning to see why Ford does not use the slogan "Quality is job one at Ford"
