First of all, you own an Explorer so you can't be an idiot. The odds are you live near a walmart and know that the install kit includes an adaptor so you don't have to cut anything. You may feel like an idiot for now. Part of owning an Ex, that looks good and saves you thousands, is having to spend $20 to $40 on a part once in a while. Knowing that now; can you put the OEM conector back on? Don't jurry-rig! If you get into a real bind with this there are a few more questions I would have to ask to solve the issue. Reply.

Easiest bet- if you have a pick 'n pull, run over and clip a stock set of harnesses out with wire leads and crimp 'em back up. Then get the harness from Wally-World.

If you don't have a pick 'n pull, pay me and I'll find the harnesses for you. :D

Do you have a stock subwoofer in the back, or just the storage cubby?

I hear ya'. It's just that that stuff works good. What wires do you have at the dash? I might be able to save you from pulling the door pannels off. If you are there then you know.

I got a few books, let me look.

I got in my stereo tool box and there seems to be more than one configuration. I got every possible wiring harnes for a ford here and a few manuals. None seem to have one right answer. If you have your hands on a volt ohm meter then you have answers. With the key off atleast one will be hot to ground. Tape it off, mark it, and put it aside. With the key on one more will be hot, mark it "key on".

If there are still speekers in the truck then pick one of the remaining wires and see what resistance there is to ground, and to some of the remainding wires. What you are looking for is a 4,6 or 8 ohm speeker. If you find four pairs of wires having 4_8 oms between each of them then you found four speekers. Tape them and mark them.

On the new stereo, you know where the wires are supposed to go. right?

Wire the + and - power to the stereo, carefull not to get any wires crossed.
Use one of the speeker outs from stereo with volume up. Use the static noise comming from the stereo to figure out what speeker is which inside the truck.

Use this same process of elimination to figure out the rest.

Crimping on all thees wires while taking notes should only take about 3 hours of serious concentration.

The $5 kit is pricless!

Thanks for the replies

Ok everyone thanks for the replies. I did look at a lot of wiring diagrams and none of them were the same. I basically pulled off the panels and looked at the wires. I crimped them back together and installed a harness kit. I don't have any volt ohm meter or any of that stuff you guys mentioned so I did what i had to do. I installed a new stereo and it sounds good. I said, "what the hell, might as well install new speakers and subs in right?". I installed 2 12" Kenwood subs and alpine speakers on the doors.
