aftermarket center console

i have a 91 explorer and i removed the center console. I want to get a new on to replace it but there is a large metal thing sticking up ... is there any way to remove this in order to add a new console ? any help is apreciated.

Large metal thingy

Hey Lamah, if I remember right, that "Large metal thingy" is bolted to the floor just under the edges of the carpet, I can't be completely positive though, Because it has been awhile since I've had my console out. You might wanna give it a look.
By the way, why did you take the original out?

thanks ... well, with the old one and a manual, you cant really use the cup holder for anything more then a can, also i was hoping to get one with a cd holder since the old one only help tapes ... i think ? anyways, i may end up putting it back in.
