I recently got a Dynomax system and the instructions show to put it on with the muffler inlet to the center and the outlet to one side. It doesnt line up right like the stock one did. It looks like it should be the other way around with the centered pipe towards the back and the offset as the inlet from the cat. This is the way the stock system is. Can someone look at theirs (91-94) especially if it is a dynomax and tell me which way the muffler is installed -which side is front/back. thanks.

I remember as topic similar to this coming up before. Use the search function on this board and see what you come up with.

Also, most mufflers are marked which way the exhaust is supposed to flow through. Whatever you do, make sure it is installed in the direction it is supposed to go.

Nope its not marked. I looked all over the muffler and i didnt see any markings. I will search and see what i come up with. thanks.

on my dynomax, the inlet and the outlet are different sizes, so they could only go in on one side.

I could be wrong, but I believe most offset mufflers I've seen have the outlet centered.

Just got this from a dynomax tech:

Thank you for your inquiry for Dynomax Exhaust. We appreciate your interest in our products. In regards to our 17430 kit for your 1991 Ford Explorer 4 door with a 4 .0 L, yes the muffler is a center inlet with an offset outlet. This kit looks very different from OE and will not be directly under the stock heat shield. The muffler included in the kit will flow both ways, so if you wish to reverse it, you can do so and have the same performance gain.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact our tech
line at the number below.

......

I guess I will leave it for now but I may reverse it in the future because I think it will fit much better the other way around.
