I just bought a Blaupunkt San Francisco cd player for the truck. It came with a wireless remote and a remote signal receiver that looks like a little round glass bead that you are supposed to mount somewhere in your car. I am not very experienced with car installs so I was wondering this:

The signal receiver is housed in this blueish violet red acrylic bubble that is easily removed, making possible a much wider range of stealth install options. Does removing the colored bubble covering the infared reciever at all affect the performance of the unit? Also have any of you guys come up with creative places to mount your remote receivers?

Thanks in advance!

most HU's come with the remote reciever built into the HU itself, including mine. just look for a cool place for it that will give it a wide range of sensing.

I am thinking about the plastic area sort of behind the ignition switch. I don't know, I am paying someone a lot of money to wire up my stereo stuff (new amps too) and I want to do it right. I am thinking about having it put into a custom dash panel for the headunit that would have room for accessory switches for lights and other stuff like that. Decisions decisions.

that custom dash panel sounds pretty cool. im assuming that your new HU is a single din - why not come up with something to fit in that little space that will be leftover from the stock HU?

what does the guy who's installing it suggest?

and when you finally decide, post some pics :)

Well, it all went in today... The Blaupunkt unit came with so many accessories that it took them all day to install it haha... Germans are thorough I guess. Anyways pics are on the way but the way they ended up installing it looks awesome. They flush mounted the receiver for the remote inside the mounting bracket... you cannot even tell it's there.

As far as the Blaupunkt unit goes, all I can say is wow! You guys are going to be amazed at how great it looks installed. The sound is great coming through my A/D/S amp, which powers the whole system. And everything is stealth;)

Pics will be here soon guys...
