All my aftermarket HUs came with cheap little tools that you slide into slot and then pull out (similar in concept to the DIN tools you need to get the oem HU out).
You've gotta pop the trim off. I take a knife and work the left and right. They're easy to break and are like $15 parts. Each HU has a different way of removing it. My Alpine has a little thing you just slide up on each side. Other HU's have a DIN-type slot that you can usually stick a knife in each side to get out.
